Professionalism in our appearance is a reflection of the pride we take in our musical preparation. When performing, we act as representatives of Lynbrook High School. Please review the specific uniform requirements for your ensemble below.
1. Concert Ensembles (Formal Black)
Students in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and all Orchestras are required to wear "Concert Black" for all formal performances and festivals. There are two approved uniform options:
Option A: Tuxedo / Suit
- Black tuxedo or standard black suit jacket and matching black dress pants.
- Pure white, long-sleeved button-down dress shirt.
- Black bow tie or black long tie.
- Solid black dress shoes (matte or patent leather).
Option B: Gown / Blouse & Slacks
- Floor-length black dress, OR black dress blouse with ankle-length black dress slacks.
- Shoulders must be covered (no spaghetti straps or strapless tops without a black cardigan/shrug).
- Black dress shoes (closed-toe preferred; if heels are worn, they must be practical for walking on stage cables).
Strict Concert Rule: The Sock Policy
Students wearing pants must wear solid black, calf-length dress socks. No white socks, no ankle socks, and no visible skin should be seen when seated. Students arriving with incorrect footwear may be withheld from the performance.
2. Marching Band
The Marching Band has two distinct sets of attire: Rehearsal Attire for practices, and the Field Uniform for competitions and football games.
Rehearsal Attire (The "White T-Shirt" Rule)
Because students are heavily active under the sun, safety and uniformity are critical.
- Solid white, athletic-style t-shirt (mandatory for visual block tracking).
- Athletic shorts or track pants (no jeans or restricting fabrics).
- Lace-up athletic running shoes with proper arch support (Vans, Converse, and sandals are strictly prohibited on the field).
- A 1-gallon water jug and a hat/visor.
Field Uniforms
The outer uniform (jacket, bibber pants, and shako hat) is provided by LIMB and maintained by our uniform volunteer team. However, students are required to purchase and maintain their own "Under-Uniform" gear:
- The official Lynbrook Marching Band "Show Shirt" (purchased during Band Camp).
- Black compression shorts (worn under the bibbers for quick changing in public areas).
- Black marching shoes (MTX or Dinkles, ordered through the program).
- Long black socks.
3. Jazz Ensembles
Jazz ensembles typically wear standard Concert Black (Option A or B) unless directed otherwise by Mr. Pakaluk for specific community gig performances, in which case the attire is the official Jazz Polo and black dress pants.
Financial Hardship
We firmly believe that no student should be excluded from participating in the instrumental music program due to financial constraints. If purchasing required attire presents a financial hardship for your family, please contact the Band Director or the LIMB Boosters privately to arrange for assistance.
